Internet Marketing is vastly different to any other method of marketing you will have tried before, it's not like 'Yellow Pages', you have to convince the visitor that your product is the best and that they need to buy it now. The sell has to be quick.
Jacob Nielson's research shows that an average visitor will only wait for 17 to 20 seconds for most content to download your web pages. Consumers, like it or not, assess the quality of a brand through its page download times - slow pages won't help you one bit.
Users of the internet tend to scan the home page - typically taking in the centre of the page, navigation (which research shows is expected at the top or on the left), the top right of a page is 'glanced at', together with any scroll, and then subsequent areas of interest are investigated but only if you got their attention.
Most can manage this in 10-15 seconds. Your visitors typically have an objective (e.g. to buy something) and want to achieve this in the most efficient way. Your web content should, as a result, be direct, easily accessed, quickly understood and cross-referenced so that users find what they fast.
You can easily achieve:
...provided they enjoy your website and found what they wanted!
